Suffolk I football roundup: GQ Grippo leads Connetquot in OT

GQ Grippo scored on an 8-yard touchdown run in overtime to lead Connetquot over Ward Melville, 34-26, in Suffolk I play on Friday night.

Justin Rochovich, who had 10 tackles and a sack, sealed the win with a tackle on the final play of the game. Grippo caught seven passes for 104 yards and a touchdown. Dylan McDermott completed 16 of 19 passes for 194 yards and a score for Connetquot (2-0).

Longwood 28, Northport 20: Jake Murphy had 28 carries for 212 yards and a touchdown to lead Longwood. Dashawn Garricks, who scored on a 1-yard run to put Longwood (1-1) ahead for good in the second quarter, had seven tackles. Danny Orr added six tackles, and Elijah Stowe and Midjery Paul each had a sack. Jordan Harris completed 3 of 5 passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Whitman 21, Brentwood 14: Ryan Shea’s 1-yard run capped a 21-point third quarter for Whitman, which erased a 14-0 halftime deficit. Jordan Lyons had two interceptions that led to two Whitman (1-1) touchdown drives. Christian Viteri had eight tackles and also had a fumble recovery that led to another Whitman score. Anthony Dennison added two sacks for the Wildcats.

Floyd 40, Sachem North 0: Nick Silva ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns, including a 66-yard score on the first play from scrimmage, to lead Floyd (2-0). He also had eight tackles. Rob Taiani completed 6 of 9 passes for 74 yards and threw two touchdowns to Jordan Clinton. Keith Winfrey returned a failed snap from the 10-yard-line for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Central Islip 18, Commack 7: Michael Hennie completed 8 of 9 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to lead Central Islip (1-1). Hennie’s 35-yard touchdown pass to Charles Brown ended the first half and completed the scoring in the game. Davyne Goode led Central Islip with 11 tackles. Hennie added five tackles, two interceptions and one of his team’s five sacks.
