KELLY TD, BUCZYNSKI PAT GIVE RIVERHEAD FIRST WIN
Senior quarterback Kyle Kelly scrambled for a 9-yard touchdown with 45 seconds remaining to tie the score, and Alec Buczynski converted the extra point as host Riverhead earned its first win of the season Saturday, 27-26, in Suffolk II before a homecoming crowd of close to 1,000.
Riverhead (1-4) trailed 26-12, but DJ Chandler blocked a punt with 5:21 remaining that set up an 18-yard touchdown pass from Kelly to Josh Maccagli.
Chandler caught three passes for 106 yards and a touchdown, as Riverhead scored for the first time this season. J-Quan Brown rushed 13 times for 114 yards and two scores for Copiague (0-6).
Huntington 20, Half Hollow Hills East 19: Cornerback Will Volek’s tackle squashed Hills East’s two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the score at 20 with 1:13 left, and Huntington (3-2) ran out the clock. Keiron Byrams had 13 carries for 122 yards and a touchdown, and Jared Leake (14 carries for 100 yards) and Sam Bergman (9 carries for 40 yards) also had rushing touchdowns.
North Babylon 35, Smithtown East 6: Brandon Sobotker racked up 215 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 18 carries for North Babylon (4-1). Sobotker also make an interception. Greg Pimentel had 18 carries for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Daniel Mistretta was 5-for-5 on point after attempts.
Newfield 29, Centereach 21: Justin Ottenwalder had five carries for 84 yards and a touchdown, and added three receptions for 87 yards and a touchdown for Newfield (3-2). Tom Long completed 5 of 9 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Jesse McKeever and Nick Ottenwalder both had 10 tackles, and Terrell Thomas added five. Anthony Giannetto had three sacks, Chris Vidal added two sacks, and Craig Armstrong recorded another. Chris Lopez was 3-for-3 on extra points.
