James Caddigan picked off a Newfield pass at the Smithtown West 40-yard-line with 1:15 remaining as the Bulls pulled off a surprising 19-12 win against Newfield on Friday night in Suffolk II.

Kyle Zawadzki ran for 216 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries, and also completed 11 of 18 passes for 210 yards with one interception.

He broke free for two long touchdown runs in the first quarter, scoring from 72 yards out and later topping it with an 80-yard scamper to give the Bulls (2-6) a 12-0 lead.

Newfield came back to tie the game at 12 with two second-quarter touchdowns. The score remained tied late in the fourth as Newfield drove into Smithtown West territory seeking the winning score before a fumble recovery by Andrew Sheahan at the Smithtown West 25 with 3:30 remaining.

Zawadzki then punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to complete a 75-yard touchdown drive to close the scoring with 1:43 remaining.

Newfield, the defending Long Island Class II champion, still reached the postseason and travels to Half Hollow Hills West next week in a Suffolk II first-round playoff game.

West Islip 35, Half Hollow Hills East 6: Pat Mulcahy had three catches for 52 yards and one touchdown along with a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a returned blocked punt for West Islip (8-0). Drew Cestaro had 11 carries for 104 yards and one touchdown and Jake Guercio had 16 carries for 170 yards and one touchdown.

Joe Valentino had nine tackles and assisted on three others. Rob Skibinski added eight tackles and assisted on two others. Hills East is 2-6. West Islip hosts Smithtown East next week in a first-round matchup.

Huntington 25, Smithtown East 20: Kyree Johnson returned an interception 25 yards for the go-ahead touchdown with five minutes left in the fourth quarter for Huntington (5-3). Keiron Byrams ran 31 times for 201 yards and two touchdowns. His first, a 39-yarder, gave Huntington a 13-7 lead in the first quarter. His 4-yard run in the third cut Smithtown East’s lead to 20-19. James Shea had two interceptions and eight tackles in the win. Smithtown East is 4-4. Vin Guarino had a 10-yard scoring run, and later threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to CJ Perrier. Matt Guercio added a 2-yard run for the Bulls’ other score.

Centereach 33, Riverhead 7: Alec Kiernan ran 21 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns for Centereach (5-3). Shawn McFarland had seven carries for 65 yards and one touchdown, along with six tackles. Brandon Cunha had seven carries for 55 yards. He had a sack and made one interception. Jay Morwood was 4-for-8 with 73 yards and one touchdown. Kevin Amaya had six tackles, and Vinny Liotta added five in the win. Riverhead is 1-7. Centereach travels to North Babylon next week for a first-round contest.

Half Hollow Hills West 49, Deer Park 0: Deyvon Wright completed his only pass attempt for a 48-yard touchdown, and added two carries for 61 yards and one touchdown for Half Hollow Hills West (6-2). Cameron Jordan had two scoring rushes of 37 and 20 yards. Jeff Terry caught the pass from Wright. TJ Anatra had an interception and returned it 60 yards for a score. Deer Park is 2-6.
