Bonser, Jones help Deer Park past Riverhead
Jarrett Bonser connected with Keshaun Jones for a 45-yard touchdown on a fourth-and-3 slant to extend Deer Park’s lead to 14 points with 2:10 remaining in the game in a 34-27 victory over Riverhead in Suffolk II football yesterday. The Deer Park defense made a key fourth-down stop to start the fourth quarter at the 2-yard line to hold a 21-14 lead.
Jones finished with two receptions for 88 yards — both for scores — and ran for 74 yards on nine carries. Bonser completed five passes — four for touchdowns — for Deer Park (2-4).
Kermann Azemar had two interceptions and Vincent Tavella chipped in with an 8-yard touchdown catch to go along with 62 rushing yards on eight carries and Tyger Munn caught two passes for 56 yards and a score.
Bellport 41, Smithtown West 8: Jimmy Morrell had two touchdowns and 150 yards on 16 carries while also passing for two touchdowns and 107 yards on 10 completions to lead Bellport (6-1). Teandre Rountree had 92 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries and Justin Rountree caught a touchdown. Dequan Wilson had 50 receiving yards on four receptions and added an interception. DeSean Jackson also had an interception.
Ben Erkan had 10 tackles and three of Bellport’s seven sacks. Sean McGorty added two sacks and Carter Vanderkief and Isaiah Wallace each had a sack.
North Babylon 54, Newfield 19: Brandon Sobotker had three first-half touchdowns, including a 90-yard run with six minutes left in the half to give North Babylon (5-1) a 34-13 lead. He rushed for 280 yards on 17 carries.
Greg Pimentel added three touchdowns with 156 yards on 17 carries. David Estrella rushed for a touchdown and 48 yards on seven attempts and had two sacks. PJ Tchinnis had an interception and a sack. Skylar Valensky added two sacks and James Brewster had a defensive score after recovering a fumble in the end zone. Billy Muller converted five-of-six extra points.
Huntington 49, Copiague 0: Keiron Byrams had 24 carries for 202 yards and three touchdowns to lead Huntington (4-2). Jared Leake had seven carries for 107 yards and a touchdown.
Sam Bergman had six carries for 36 yards and a touchdown. Eric Sands had 12 carries for 55 yards and a touchdown. Matthew Mattice had three carries for six yards and a score.
James Shea had five tackles. He also recovered a fumble and made an interception, his seventh of the year.
