Thursday night's Suffolk Division IV championship football game between Shoreham-Wading River and Mount Sinai has been rescheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. at Stony Brook University because of the bad weather forecast for Thursday evening.
Tom Combs, the executive director for Section XI, which governs all Suffolk high school athletics, said football chairman Tim Horan waited until Thursday morning to monitor the weather situation and make the decision based on the forecast.
"We feel it’s in the best interests of everyone involved that we move the game,” Combs said. “There is inclement weather expected throughout the afternoon and that could create some safety issues. Our first and foremost priority is to ensure the safety of our players and fan base. We’re moving the game and we feel it’ll work out better for everyone.”
The game change also will affect the Suffolk Division II championship between undefeated West Islip and Lindenhurst, which was scheduled for Friday at Stony Brook at 7 p.m. That game will start at 7:30 p.m.
