Terry Brennan hit a three-pointer with 40 seconds left to break a 43-all tie and lift Hicksville over Great Neck South, 48-43, in AA-II boys basketball Saturday.
Brian Lee hit a running shot from the baseline to tie the game at 43 for Great Neck South with about a minute left in regulation. Stan Luu hit two free throws in the waning seconds of the game to ice the victory for Hicksville (7-2). Uche Ogbonna had 17 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks. John Petrucelli added 14. Great Neck South is 3-5.
Valley Stream South 55, Lynbrook 49: Jason Jones hit a three-pointer with 4:00 left to give Valley Stream South (3-3) a 48-38 lead in ABC-II, and the Falcons cruised to victory. Valley Stream had led by just one point - 22-21 - at the half, but took control with a 17-11 third quarter. Jones had 16 points and five assists, Obinna Nwaigwe had 12 points and 10 rebounds and Rashawn Providence scored 13 points. Ryan Clark had a game-high 17 points for Lynbrook.
Deer Park 61, Smithtown West 45: Marques Charlton scored 21 points and Troy Corbin had 12 points for Deer Park (4-4) in League IV. Chris Otterson (six points) hit two three-pointers during a 16-7 second quarter to help give Deer Park a 26-15 halftime lead. Kevin Kumpfbeck led Smithtown West (1-7) with 15 points.
Northport 59, Half Hollow Hills East 52: Chris Contino scored 16 points to lead Northport (2-5). Ross Ragonesi had 13 points and freshman Anthony Sbarro had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Wheatley 36, Great Neck North 25: Paige Feldman had eight points and 10 steals to lead Wheatley (7-4) in ABC-V. Kia Zivari scored all six of her points in a 19-11 first half and added nine rebounds. Jennifer Doppelt led all scorers with 10 points for Great Neck North.
North Shore 62, Roosevelt 56: Elle Hoffman (16 points) gave North Shore a 55-54 lead with a minute left and Kathleen Lennon (22 points) made it 58-54 with a three-pointer 30 seconds later for the Vikings (3-5) in ABC-II. Amanda Johansen then made four free throws in the final 20 seconds to seal it. Lennon's 22 points were a career high for the senior. Johansen finished with eight points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and five steals. Simone Thomas led Roosevelt (7-2) with a game-high 29 points and Maurica Charles added 12.
