Klapper leads Roslyn girls in Nassau 'A' first round

Stefanie Klapper had 24 of her 29 points in the second half for No. 10 Roslyn in a 53-44 win over No. 7 New Hyde Park on Friday in the first round of the Nassau Class A girls basketball playoffs. Roslyn (11-6) outscored NHP 31-21 in the second half. Klapper also had 13 rebounds and Ashley Levy had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Roslyn will play at No. 2 Garden City in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Tuesday.South Side 45, Floral Park 26: Colleen Burke had 19 points, six steals and four rebounds to lead No. 4 South Side (12-6). Lauren Lopresti had nine points and eight rebounds and Megan Lonergan four points, 15 rebounds and six blocked shots. Danielle Donohue scored nine points for No. 13 Floral Park. South Side will host Wantagh at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the quarterfinals.Wantagh 58, Seaford 32: Sophomore Kaleigh Craig scored 16 of her career-high 27 points in the first quarter and also had 12 rebounds to lead No. 5 Wantagh (10-8). Jackie Sileo had 10 points, five assists and five steals and Paula Schmidt six points and 10 rebounds. Stephanie Meyer scored 11 points for No. 12 Seaford.Roosevelt 67, North Shore 59: Samantha Corbitt had 20 points, 11 rebounds and five assists and Simone Thomas 17 points and seven rebounds for No. 8 Roosevelt (13-5). Roosevelt will play at Division at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the quarterfinals. Kathleen Lennon's 18 points led No. 9 North Shore.Garden City 64, Mineola 37: Junior Barbara Sullivan had 20 of her career-high 25 points in a 42-16 first half for No. 2 Garden City (15-3). Sullivan added seven rebounds and five assists. Kim Ryan scored 17 points and Diana Leondis had 18 points and five assists.Division 68, Lawrence 44: Nicolette Parmese had 15 points and Julie Ballantyne 12 for No. 1 Division (16-1). Division will host No. 8 Roosevelt at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in a quarterfinal.

Lynbrook 71, Plainedge 40: Shannon Doody had 10 points, eight rebounds and seven steals to lead No. 3 Lynbrook (13-5). Lynbrook will host No. 6 Elmont at 1 p.m. Tuesday in a quarterfinal. Michelle Daubman had six three-pointers for 18 points for Plainedge.Elmont 63, Westbury 41: Reauna Dorner scored 15 points and Alex Clark 12 points for No. 6 Elmont (6-12).

Great Neck South 42, Bellmore JFK 33: Junior Sapir Edalati had a career-high 20 points and seven steals to lead No. 8 Great Neck South (16-2). South with play at No. 1 Uniondale at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

Mepham 45, Freeport 31: Alex Leung had 20 points and Kristen O'Brien 14 points for No. 6 Mepham (6-11), which will play Massapequa at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

Farmingdale 45, Herricks 17: Kyra Ochwat had 17 points and 12 rebounds and Alexis Paneriello eight points and five assists for No. 5 Farmingdale (12-6), which will play at No. 4 MacArthur at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
