McHugh helps Herricks girls basketball to victory

Bridget McHugh had nine points, including a putback with 35 seconds left to lift Herricks to a 36-31 win over Carey on Friday in Nassau Conference AA-III girls basketball. McHugh's putback gave Herricks (10-1) a 34-28 lead. Allison Ricchiuto added two free throws to provide the final margin.

Hicksville 60, Valley Stream Central 47: Michelle Filangieri and Jessica Bonczyk each had 16 points and Caitlyn Garger added 14 for Hicksville (10-1) in Conference AA-III. Filangieri also had eight rebounds and three blocks. Hicksville plays at Herricks at 6 p.m. Monday for the conference title and a playoff berth.Long Beach 48, Hempstead 40: Natasia Hurd had 24 points and seven rebounds off the bench for Long Beach (5-5), which overcame a 13-1 deficit in the first quarter in Conference AA-III.

Freeport 30, Syosset 27: Monique Jones had 16 points and eight steals and LaTashia Morris went 3-for-4 from the foul line in the final 30 seconds to help win it for Freeport (5-6) in Conference AA-II. Morris hit 1 of 2 foul shots with 10 seconds left to provide the final margin.

Floral Park 42, Plainedge 39: Danielle Donohue had 19 points and 14 rebounds and Katie Phelan chipped in 12 as Floral Park (10-1) erased a 29-15 deficit in the second half in Conference ABC-III.

Mineola 30, Valley Stream South 27: Heather Gessner (13 points) completed a three-point play with 12.5 seconds remaining to win it for Mineola (9-3) in Conference ABC-IV. Erin Etherson had 11 blocks and ignited Mineola's defense, which limited Valley Stream South to three second-half points.Ward Melville 41, Patchogue-Medford 29: Kaitlyn Carballeira had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Ward Melville (9-2) in Suffolk League I. Georgia Holland added 10 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds.Rocky Point 42, Islip 40: Hope Heiselman had 11 points and six rebounds and Shannon Grodotzke nine points and seven rebounds for Rocky Point (1-12) in League V.

St. Anthony's 45, Sacred Heart 40: Micky Impellizeri had nine points, 10 rebounds and five steals and Rebecca Musgrove 11 points for St. Anthony's (8-2) in CHSAA.
