Nassau Class AA Final: Uniondale vs. Baldwin

Greetings from the Nassau Class AA final at C.W. Post. Uniondale and Baldwin square off for the coveted title.

FINAL: 46-39 BALDWIN: Baldwin found another gear in the second OT, led by Hampton, who was named the Class AA MVP. Kalin Russell, though, proved to be the difference-maker. Her layup at the beginning of the second overtime gave the Bruins the necessary cushion. After that, UDale was left scrambling. The Knights led in the first OT after Ofili's layup and foul shots put them up by four, but that's when Hampton sealed her status as MVP. Her steal, two-pointer and subsequent converted foul shots (a biiiiiiiiiiiig problem for both sides during this game), shifted the momentum and set the stage for the following minutes. Baldwin will play the Suffolk AA Champion (who that is, we know not) next week. Should be awesome. Hampton, Gatling, Ofili and Lowry were all named to the all-star team.

Ok...that's all she wrote. That was a whole lotta bball for one day. Check in Monday for regional championship info.

UPDATE: Greene sinks the first of a one-and-one to put the Bruins up 45-39 with 1:07 left. Time's winding down...Hampton gets fouled and sinks the second of two. 46-39, Bruins.

UPDATE: Kalin Russell with two for Baldwin...UDale hits one of two free throws and Gatling sinks the layup to put the Bruins up 42-39 with 2:21 left. Steal by Baldwin...Courtney Jackson with the hook shot. They're up by five.

UPDATE: Travelling call on UDale. Bruins with possession with 11 second left. Time out. This has been the longest minute ever. Holy smokes, Greene missed the shot at the buzzer again.

UPDATE: Ofili layup puts UDale up by two. Ofili at the foul line with 3:00 left: sinks both. 38-34, UDale...Alex Hampton draws 'em to within two with the converted steal. :48 left....Hampton gets fouled with :36.3 left. One and one...she nails the first. Biggest Foul Shot of Career: Part Two. She sinks it. We. Are. Tied. (And the crowd goes wild)

UPDATE: Baldwin foul on the charge. Ofili to the line with :9.2 ticks left. She misses the first...tiiiiiiiiiiiiiime out. Possibly the biggest foul shot of Ofili's life so far has just skittered out of the net. Still tied. Three seconds left. Katie Greene takes a shot at the buzzer and misses. We're going to OT.

UPDATE: U-Dale steal looks like it's going to seal the game, but a huge travelling call shits the advantage back to Baldwin. Tied at 34 with :26.2 left in regulation.

UPDATE: Lowry goes 0-for-2 from the foul line: both times the ball goes in before skittering out. Still tied with a minute left. To say her frustration is palpable is an understatement.

UPDATE: Myajha Elston with the three with 4:30 left to give the Knights the 32-30 lead...Gatling sinks a trey with 2:30 left to tie it at 34.

UPDATE: U-dale goes 0-4 from the line to end the third quarter. Still tied at 24 going into the fourth.

UPDATE: A free throw by Lowry makes it 24-21 with about 1:30 left in the third. Alex Hampton goes 1-for-2 from the line to draw Baldwin to within one. Shayna Gatling ties it on a short jumper.

UPDATE: Uniondale leds 19-16 with 4:19 left in the third. The difference-maker: a steal and a basket by Natasha Perry followed by a coast-to-coast drive by Ifeanyi Ofili. Siara Lowry adds a layup to make it 21-16 with 3:35 left.

At the end of the first hald, Baldwin leads 13-12. Amber Harrison hit a three with about two minutes left in the quarter to put the Bruins ahead 13-10 before Aliyah McDonald cut the deficit with a layup in the waning seconds of the quarter.
