O'Connor, Cunningham set pace for Kellenberg

Emma O'Connor scored 12 of her game-high 22 points in a 21-6 fourth quarter and Katie Cunningham added 14 points and 10 assists for Kellenberg (3-0) in a 55-49 win over visiting St. Anthony's in CHSAA girls basketball last night. O'Connor also had 10 steals and five assists for the Firebirds, who trailed 43-34 entering the fourth quarter.

"She basically took over the game and was unstoppable," Kellenberg coach Meghan Moran said of O'Connor. "She really turned it on when we needed her to."

Kerrin Maurer led St. Anthony's (3-1) with 13 points, including 12 in a 23-16 third quarter.

Massapequa 41, Uniondale 40: Nikki Daly, who scored 13 points, hit a three-pointer with 42 seconds left to give Massapequa (3-2) a 41-38 lead in Conference AA-I. Lauren Birney sunk two free throws with 1:10 left to tie the game at 38, the game's first tie since early in the second quarter. Massapequa trailed 33-24 heading into the final quarter. Ifeanyi Ofili's steal and basket for Uniondale (5-1) with 20 seconds to play made the score 41-40, but Casey Bartels blocked the last shot with 17 seconds left to secure the win for Massapequa.Long Beach 37, Hempstead 35: Natasia Hurd scored five straight points, including a layup off her own steal, to give Long Beach (3-2) a 37-31 lead with 2:29 left in the fourth quarter in Conference AA-III. Hurd, who hit a three-pointer on the previous possession to make it 35-31, scored a game-high 19 points with seven rebounds. Celine Jolicoeur led Hempstead (0-5) with 15 points.Herricks 33, Carey 30: Marissa DiRienzo hit a free throw with 17 seconds left to give Herricks (5-0) a 32-28 lead. Kim Givelechian had eight points and 11 rebounds and Allison Ricchiuti five points and seven steals. Nicolette Sands led Carey (2-3) with a game-high 18 points.

Roslyn 72, North Shore 64: Stefanie Klapper scored a game-high 29 points with 13 rebounds, and Nina Hadzibabic had 18 points and five assists for Roslyn (3-2) in Conference ABC-II. Ashley Levy chipped in with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kathleen Lennon led North Shore (2-3) with 18 points.Connetquot 52, Sachem North 44: Marissa Monaco scored 21 of her game-high 25 points in a 23-6 first quarter and finished with seven rebounds for Connetquot (2-4) in League II. Raychel Diver had 11 points. Sara Rizik led Sachem North (3-2) with 17 points.

East Islip 48, Smithtown East 41: Jessica Calamusso had 17 points, 26 rebounds and 10 steals to lead East Islip (4-0) in League III. Paige Meehan scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half. Shannon O'Connor led Smithtown East (2-1) with 18 points. Copiague 44, Deer Park 41: Judith Pierre scored five points off the bench in a 15-4 fourth quarter for Copiague (4-0) in League IV. Chelsea Willliams scored 15 points to lead Copiague. Andrea Desvignes led Deer Park (1-3) with a game-high 20 points.

Smithtown West 53, Bellport 50: Kristen Viscount (13 points, 11 rebounds) hit two free throws late in overtime to seal the win for Smithtown West (4-0). Sara English scored a game-high 22 points with 12 rebounds for the Bulls. LaShanna Garrison scored 18 points for Bellport (0-4).Kings Park 54, Harborfields 34: Marion Kawecki had 14 points, eight rebounds and five steals for Kings Park (7-0) in League V. Jamie Romano added 14 points, seven rebounds and five blocks. Harborfields is 6-1.
