Roundup: Nicholson leads Mercy basketball win

Ali Nicholson's three-point play with a 1:30 left put Mercy up by four and staved off a surging Shelter Island in Mercy's 36-33 win last night in Suffolk League VIII girls basketball. Amy Boden had 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocks for Mercy (3-2). Nicholson added seven points, six rebounds, three blocks and a steal.

Southold 56, Ross 25: Aly Dey had 14 points and five assists and Melissa Rogers added three points and 11 rebounds for Southold (5-0) in League VIII.

Stony Brook 72, Port Jefferson 19: Brannon Burke scored 19 points and had eight rebounds, Sadie Singer had 10 points and six assists, and Emily Carmel had 12 points and five steals for Stony Brook (5-0).

Mattituck 51, Southampton 37: Stephanie Pisacano scored 10 of her 19 points in the second half to lead Mattituck in League VII. Katherine Wilcenski and Theresa Zuhoski each added 12 points and Emily Ianno had six points and 13 rebounds. Cassidy Guida scored 15 points for Southampton.

Hampton Bays 45, Babylon 38: Theresa Carey scored 20 points to lead Hampton Bays (1-2) in League VII. Rachel Tufano added 12 points.

Center Moriches 63, Wyandanch 55: Amber Davis (33 points, 11 rebounds) hit a layup less than a minute into overtime, and Center Moriches (5-0) used a 10-2 extra period to seal the win in League VII. Kelsey Glanzman (eight points, 19 rebounds) hit a two-pointer to tie the score at 52 with less than a minute remaining in regulation for Center Moriches.

Lawrence Woodmere Academy 36, Waldorf 24: Hayley Alexander scored 30 points, including five three-pointers, to lead Lawrence Woodmere Academy (6-2) in IPPSAL. Allison Diello scored eight points for Waldorf.
