Shneeka Center reached the 2,000-point plateau, scoring 40 points to lead Smithtown West over Bellport, 70-56, last night in League IV girls basketball.
Center, a Davidson-bound senior, reached the milestone on a free throw 3:30 into the third quarter after being fouled while driving for a layup.
"Her willingness to do anything offensively to put us ahead makes her stand out, along with her raw talent," coach Katie Combs said of Center, who became the first Bull to reach 2,000 points.
The 6-0 guard shot 14-for-25 from the field and hit 12 free throws, doing most of her damage inside. She also had 10 rebounds and three steals. Sara English added 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks and Annie McCutchen had six points and 10 assists as Smithtown West improved to 10-1.
"[Center] has refined her game," Combs said. "Before, she would get a lot of points on putbacks. Now she's more of an outside threat and she's got more moves to the basket."
