The race for the League VI crown

Coming into today, four teams were tied for first place in Suffolk League VI with a 6-2 record. They all faced each other today with Mount Sinai pulling out a 56-54 win over Miller Place and Shoreham-Wading River handling Glenn with ease, 55-30.

Rachel Yavorka scored on a layup on a backdoor cut off a pass from Emily Bongiorno with one minute left to win it for Mt. Sinai (7-2). Mt. Sinai overcame an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to get the win. Bongiorno stole the show with 27 points, nine rebounds, seven steals and five assists. Sarah Shine added 15 points and five rebounds and Lauren Ferris had 11 rebounds. Brea Greene scored 21 points to lead Miller Place (6-3).

Samantha Villafranca had another big game for SWR (7-2). She had 32 points and five assists and Cali Lavey had seven rebounds and seven steals. Allison McKenna led Glenn (6-3) with 14 points.

Amityville defeated Bayport-Blue Point, 51-37 to improve to 6-3 and create a three-way tie for second. Raven Price had 17 points and 15 rebounds in the win.

SWR and Mount Sinai are tied for first at 7-2. Mount Sinai beat SWR on Jan. 9, 46-45. The teams meet again on Feb. 4.
