1. St. Anthony's
The Friars are coming off a season in which they won a third straight CHSAA Class AA title and finished the year ranked third in the nation. They begin league play on Wednesday, visiting Holy Trinity.
2. Sacred Heart (1-0)
The Spartans opened the season with a 13-7 win at Cold Spring Harbor. Nina Corcoran had two goals and four assists, and Maeve Quinn scored three goals to lead them. Sacred Heart, the CHSAA runner-up, was ranked 27th in the country by ESPN Rise last season.
3. St. John the Baptist
The Cougars reached the Class AA semifinals for the first time last season and should be equipped for another run. They graduated leading scorer Danielle Jaycox (now at Adelphi), but SJB is a deep team now in the capable hands of Jill May, Kaitlyn Montalbano and Morgan Jaycox.
4. Kellenberg (1-0)
The Class AA quarterfinalists opened the season with a 17-6 win over Long Island Lutheran on Friday. Sarah Croutier had six goals and three assists, and Michelle Goss added three goals and three assists.
5. Long Island Lutheran (1-1)
LuHi opened its season with a 19-16 win over Our Lady of Mercy, a CHSAA Class AA semifinalist. Junior midfielder Carolyn Dottino scored a career-high seven goals to lead the Crusaders. Nicole Sinacori added six goals and two assists and Danielle, her twin sister, had two goals and three assists.
