Bay Shore (16-3) vs.
Sunday, Dowling Sports Complex, noon
About Bay Shore: Very few expected the Marauders, the No. 3 seed in Suffolk, to emerge as the county champ, but after upsets of No. 2 West Islip and top-seeded Northport, here they are in search of their first Long Island title since 2005. Northwestern-bound Alyssa Leonard paces the offense (53 goals this season), alongside Shelby Vaccaro (49) and Caroline deLyra (40 goals, 32 assists). Marissa O'Meally is a lockdown defender.
About Farmingdale: The defending state Class A champs "struggled" by their standards this season, but were still good enough to win their fifth straight county title and ninth in the last 10 years. The Dalers, who are seeking their fifth consecutive Long Island title, outscored their two Nassau playoff opponents 36-13, led by Melanie Raso's eight goals and eight assists, and Alyssa Cardillo's four goals and seven assists.
Rocky Point (17-1) vs.
Garden City (18-0)
About Rocky Point: Pushed to the brink of elimination by Hauppauge in the county title game, the Eagles responded with Alexa Anzalone's game-tying goal with 2.5 seconds left in regulation, and Kara Mupo's game-winner 2:19 into overtime. It was their fifth Class B county title in the last six years. That's the good news. The bad? In each of those five trips to the Long Island championship game, they lost to Garden City.
About Garden City: The Trojans juggernaut keeps rolling, as they ride a Long Island-best 24-game winning streak. The last win, 20-13 over Wantagh, gave them six straight Nassau Class B titles. They've won four straight state titles and their average margin of victory this season is more than nine goals. They're led by Caroline Tarzian (72 goals, 33 assists) and Mikaela Rix (47, 18) and are 13-0 in Long Island championship games.
vs. Manhasset (16-1)
About SWR: Much like Garden City in Class B, the Wildcats dominate Class C. They won their seventh straight county title and are looking for their fifth straight Long Island crown en route to a fourth consecutive state championship. They remain the only Suffolk team to ever win a girls lacrosse state title. The trio of Jen DeVito (62 goals, committed to Yale), Kait Brosco (58 goals, committed to Notre Dame) and Chelsey Newman (41 goals, committed to Harvard) lead the squad.
About Manhasset: Guess who's been the stumbling block in the Indians' pursuit of a state tournament the past four years? Yes, Shoreham-Wading River. But Manhasset brings arguably its best squad to Dowling Sunday, as its only loss was to Garden City. Halle Majorana (47 goals, 31 assists) has a wicked shot, but also watch for Kerri Fleishhacker (44, 11).
