Here are some of the quotes from after tonight's Class A girls lacrosse championship between Northport and Farmingdale.
Northport coach Carol Rose:
Seven years between championships, how does it feel to be back in this spot?
It feels great. I’m just fortunate to be with all these awesome kids. I knew our season wasn’t over because they love coming to practice, playing lacrosse and it’s awesome.
Who gets to tell Erin Magnuson about the win?
They’ve been texting her on the sideline the whole game. She’s with us in spirit the whole game.
You were able to shut down their best players, what made that possible tonight but not in your losses to Good Counsel and Garden City?
I feel like they wanted it so bad. They’ve been talking about it since they lost against Bay Shore last year. They said, ‘Coach this is our year. We’re going to do our best to get us up there.’ They have, they’ve given us everything they’ve got. I love them.
The whole team played great. They were patient, they were composed. We controlled the entire game today.
Northport defender Megan Marinelli:
Who gets to tell Erin about the win?
Erin was a big motivator for us. We wanted her here we were really uspet after it happened. We wanted her with us upstate.
What made it possible for you guys to shut down McPartland and Leone?
Randal [Cook] was in Jamie’s face the whole game and everyone stepped up on defense.
Northport midfielder Shannon Gilroy:
How were you able to play on your ankle and how does it feel now compared to Thursday?
I think my adrenaline kicked in and I just pushed through it. This is my last chance to go to states and I would do anything to be here. It’s feeling a lot better. It still hurts a little bit but I’m trying to ignore it and play through it.
What are you going to say to Erin when you see her?
That I love her and this is for her. It was terrible what happened that she couldn’t be here. She’s one of my good friends and to go home and give her a big hug and tell her that we won is a great feeling
