Live Blog: Girls Lax Class B LIC

We are live from Hofstra's James M. Shuart stadium for today's girls lacrosse Long Island championships. The first game of the day is the Class B final between Suffolk champion Hauppauge (19-0) and Nassau champion Garden City (18-0). Garden City will go for the 6-peat and will play in the state semifinals at 9:30 a.m. Friday at SUNY Cortland.

FINAL 13-7 Garden City. The Trojans (19-0) will defend their five straight state titles and play int he state semis at 9:30 a.m. Friday at SUNY Cortland.

2nd Half:

13-7: Ranftle scores her second.

13-6 Garden City 23.4: Porretto scores her second.

13-5 Garden City 1:12: Fuchs with her second fro Bruno.

12-5 Garden City 1:29: Tarzian scores on a free position with no goalie.

11-5 Garden City 1:41: Ranftle gets an unassisted goal.

11-4 Garden City 2:18: McTiernan from Dickinson.

10-4 Garden City 3:16: Alex Bruno nets her third on a long cross-field pass by Dickinson. Hauppuage trying a trap defensively and Garden City found the hole.

Hauppauge calls its second timeout and this one is almost certainly over.

9-4 Garden City 6:18: Catherine Dickinson scores on a bounce with an assit from Tarzina, her fourth assist of the day.

Porretto, Ranftle and Descalzo do their best but Weis makes another save. The Trojans defense is wearing down the Eagles attackers.

8-4 Garden City 12:58: Tarzian buries her third of the day.

Weis makes a huge save on a Porretto free position.

7-4 Garden City 12:58: A wild scene in front of Weis ends with Jenna Vinci bruying a loose ball.

7-3 Garden City 14:28: Jen Porretto scores with an assist from Descalzo. The Eagles had not scored in just shy of 31 minutes.

7-2 Garden City 21:16: Jenna Fuchs scores on a feed from Tarzian.

Quick analysis: Hauppauge weathered the storm early playing great high pressure defense and converting on the few chances they had to take a 2-0 lead. Since then the Trojans have capitalized on all of the mistakes by the Eagles. Five of the six Trojans goals have come on the advantage and this would have been a little closer without the penalties. Garden City turned on the lights and have been cruising the last 13 minutes.

Halftime: 6-2 Garden City

H - Descalzo 2 goals, Ranftle 1 assisst, Poretto 1 assist, Kephart 5 saves

1st Half:

Five of the six Trojan goals have come while a man up. Hauppauge can not give the five-time defending state champs those kind of opportunities.

6-2 Garden City 6:16: Tarzian nets her second as McTiernan dishes it to her at the crease on a free position.

5-2 Garden City 8:17: Mikaela Rix gets on the board with an assist by Tarzian.

Hauppauge's Jenna Vinci gets a yellow card at 8:57, the second yellow on the Eagles so far.

Hauppauge calls its first timeout.

4-2 Garden City 9:08: Bruno scores her second with an assist by Tarzian. After Porretto makes a huge defensive play, Hauppauge turns it over and Garden Ciy gets the ball back.

Weis makes a point-blank save on Descalzo.

Porretto's penalty ends but it proves costly in the short term as Garden City scores 3 goals with her off the field.

3-2 Garden City 11:35: Catherine McTiernan bounces one to put the Trojans ahead for the first time.

2-2 tie 12:00: Caroline Tarzian whps a shot passt Kephart to tie the game.

2-1 Hauppauge 13:21: Garden City's Alexandra Bruno scores ona  free position.

Jen Porretto gets a yellow card at 13:25, which could be enormous later in this game.

The Eagles defense is doing a superb job early on, forcing a lot of turnovers and getting to ground balls.

Descalzo tries to send a pass in front but it sails out of bounds. Hauppauge has kept the Garden City defense active so far, a must if they are going to win this game.

2-0 Hauppauge: Porretto finds Descalzo again and this time she buries it.

Jen Porretto finds Descalzo but she can't control it. Eagles maintain control.

A save by Hauppauge's Kasey Kephart and a nice defensive play by the Eagles, drawing a charge to stop Garden City's possession.

1-0 Hauppauge 23:25: Hauppauge gets on the board as Taylor Ranftle feeds Lauren Descalzo who slides between Trojan defenders and bounces one pas Kelly Weis.

The first news of the day is Garden City's Kate Butcher and Gaby Nesi are in the lineup after each suffered injuries in the Nassau B Final.
