Meet the 2009 edition of the All-Long Island girls soccer team, as selected by Newsday's Chris Mascaro and Mike Gavin.

Suffolk Player of the Year
The first-team All State selection has the ability to score at will, but gladly passes up her own shot to create better opportunities for teammates, as shown by her eight goals and 16 assists. Her two-goal game in the first round of the playoffs led Northport to an upset of Ward Melville.

The engine in the Chiefs' offense, Arnold scored seven goals with six assists in captaining Massapequa to its seventh-straight Nassau title. The Delaware-bound Arnold, who scored the game-winner in the first round of the playoffs, was a first-team All State selection.

A true striker in every sense of the word, Beyar, who returned to the field after an offseason ACL repair in her right knee, scored two goals off direct kicks in the state final. The Fairfield-bound Beyar finished with 12 goals and six assists on the season.

Long Island Player of the Year
Dazzling crowds and befuddling defenses, the UNC-bound star scored 20 goals on the season, including four in the state final, with 11 assists. The first-team All State selection recorded a point in all but one of the Cyclones' 19 contests, and had four multi-goal games. She scored the eventual game-winner in the L.I.C., state semifinal and state final.

The All-State keeper showed tremendous range and the ability to make game-changing saves. She finished with eight solo shutouts and allowed just six goals in 16 games in leading the Flaming Arrows to the top seed in the playoffs.

Hyland's game-winner with two seconds left in overtime of the season opener was a sign of things to come. The first-team All-State selection scored 12 goals on the season, including the game-winner in nine of Islip's 10 wins.

The Lions' striker scored 14 goals, none more impressive than her miracle goal from 25 yards out as time expired to win the Suffolk Class AA title. The Molloy-bound Johnson, who also had five assists, led West Islip to its first state tournament since 1989.

The All American track star used her speed to anchor a defense that allowed just 1.6 goals per game. The first-team All State selection, who will play at Georgetown in the fall, also scored three goals, including game-winners against New Hyde Park and Cold Spring Harbor.

Murino anchored a defense that recorded nine shutouts and allowed more than one goal in only three games. Murino, who will play at St. John's in the fall, is the second straight Murino sister to make the All-Long Island squad. Her older sister, Danielle, was on last year's team.

The UConn-bound Prendergast scored 16 goals on the season, none more important than her 13-yard blast in overtime to give SJB its first CHSAA state title. She assisted on four goals in two state tournament games, and finished with 15 helpers on the season.

The Spartans' offense ran through this sparkplug, who finished with nine goals and nine assists on the season. Speck had three multi-goal games, including one against rival St. Anthony's, and assisted on two goals in the CHSAA playoffs.

Allowing just 15 goals in 15 games (including five shutouts), the Jets' defense was one of the best in Nassau with Widmann as the foundation. The first-team All State player also chipped in with two goals and four assists.
