Bulldogs hand Colts first loss

The last unbeaten in Class AA Suffolk girls soccer is unbeaten no longer.

North Babylon handed Half Hollow Hills West its first loss of the season with a 4-0 win on Thursday, snapping Hills West's ten-game winning streak and pulling North Babylon into a tie for second place with West Babylon at 5-2-1 in League IV.

North Babylon and Hills West (10-1, 8-1) split the season series at one game each, with the Colts winning 2-1 on September 24.

"We have a confident core group of players that are coming together at the right time and playing our best soccer of the season," North Babylon coach Steve Corrado said.  "Our team felt we let one slip against Hills the first time and we wanted to show that we can play with any team in the county.  Today was a great team effort led by some great leaders in Christine Campanello on defense and Emily Ude and Casey Filippone on offense."

After a scoreless first-half, Ude scored the first of her two goals eight minutes into a second-half that was dominated by North Babylon.  April Makely and Filippone also added second-half goals and Kelly Heimerle recorded her fifth shutout of the season.

Said Corrado: "In the end, one of our team goals is to finish this season playing our best soccer entering the playoffs."
