Friends Academy defeated Section V champion Keshequa, 3-2, in the Class C state semifinals Saturday morning at SUNY-Cortland. Krystina Iordanou scored the game-winning goal on a breakaway in the 64th minute. The Quakers (12-0-1) advance to their first state final and will play Hoosick Falls Sunday at 10 a.m. at Homer HS in neighboring Homer, N.Y. Keshequa (21-1-0) suffers its first loss of the season.

FINAL: 3-2 Friends Academy

2nd Half:

5:00 Quakers keeping the ball in the offensive end and preventing a Keshequa attack.

10:00 The Quakers defense has done a great job in the second half of restricting the Keshequa attack. The Indians are in an unfamiliar position right now, trailing with 10 to play and will start to push up field en mass.

16:37 FRIENDS ACADEMY GOAL Krystina Iordanou scores on a breakaway to give the Quakers the lead again

23:30 Neither team has any shots on goal in the second half but Friends has had more threats. Keshequa has done nothing offensively and Gabrielle DiAngelo has been the only player to provide a spark at all.

30:00 Friends is still dominating possession 10 minutes into the second half. The sun is still an issue with Keshequa goalkeeper Kate Forrester shielding her eyes the entire half.

33:25 Kasey Katz rings the left post on a shot from inside the 18

HT: 2-2

Friends Academy has dominated possession but is in a tie game at the half. The Quakers allowed both goals of set pieces, the first on a 35-yard free kick and the second was a 30-yard free kick which took a bounce inside the box, off the keeper and to the feet of a Keshequa player. Part of the issue for the Quakers was undoubedly playing into the early morning sunshine in the first half. Friends needs to keep up the pace and use the sun to its advantage in the second half in order to win this one.

1st Half:

3:30 KESHEQUA GOAL Haley Russell scores on a put back from 8 yards out to tie the game for the Indians.

7:12 FRIENDS ACADEMY GOAL Alexis Toles heads a cross from Heather Maierle into the net to give the Quakers the lead

19:56 Alexis Toles almost puts Friends ahead but her chip shot from 15 yards out on the left side goes wide left

25:06 FRIENDS ACADEMY GOAL Heather Maierle scores on a blast from the right side of the 18-yard box to tie the game. It is Maierle's 8th goal of the year and just the 4th goal allowed by the Indians.

30:40 Ratner charges out to play a bouncing ball but Keshequa gets a head on it first and almost takes a 2-0 lead but the ball rolls wide of the net.

34:58 KESHEQUA GOAL Gabrielle DiAngelo puts Keshequa on the board on a free kick from 35 yards out which sails over a leaping Claudia Ratner.
