1. Massapequa (10-0-1)
Not too much going on for Massapequa this week, just a single game and a single 10-0 defeat of Hempstead on Oct. 14. Rosie DiMartino has now scored in six straight games and has eight goals and two assists in that span. Massapequa has scored 59 goals and allowed just two.
2. MacArthur (10-0-1)
Tough opponents for MacArthur this week, but the team keeps rolling in Conference II. They beat Plainview JFK, 5-0, on Oct. 14 and East Meadow, 4-1, on Oct. 18. Jill Mulholland scored a total of five goals in the two games, as if we’d expect any less at this point. Mulholland is second in Nassau with 24 points. She leads the county with 19 goals.
3. South Side (9-1-1)
South Side beat Bethpage, 5-0, on Oct. 15 for its lone action of the week. Christina Klaum had a hat trick in the victory. It’s the team second straight 5-0 win and fourth consecutive shutout. South Side has scored at least five goals in each of the last four games.
4. Mepham (11-1)
Mepham beat Valley Stream Central, 5-0, on Oct. 14 and handed Calhoun (ranked No. 7 on this list) a 3-1 loss on Oct. 18. Jill Picinich had four goals and an assist in the two contests. Picinich is sixth in the county with 20 points and teammate Safi Ayinde is fifth with 21. Picinich is tied for second in the county in goals with 15.
5. Plainedge (10-1-1)
After starting the season out 0-1-1, Plainedge has now won 10 straight, most recently beating Malverne/East Rockaway and Bethpage. Michelle Daubman has at least one goal or one assist in every game but one. She leads Nassau in points (28) and is tied for second in goals in the county with 15. She also leads Nassau in assists (13).
6. North Shore (9-0-1)
North Shore got through by the skin of its teeth in a 2-1 with over Clarke on Oct. 14 and then trounced Roosevelt 8-0 on Oct. 15. Amanda Johansen scored five of the teams 10 goals in those games. Johansen is tied for third in the county with 22 points and is tied for second in Nassau with 15 goals.
7. Division (9-2-2)
Perhaps Division read my latest blog post about ties in Nassau and Suffolk, because they certainly went to work to give some more ties to Nassau. They tied New Hyde Park 0-0 in a game that only lasted one half before being called at halftime due to inclement weather. Then it tied Garden City 1-1 on Oct. 18 in a full regulation game. Maggie Carew scored off a corner kick by Krista Fitzpatrick in the 65th minute to tie it at 1 for Division.
8. Calhoun (9-2-1)
A mixed week for Calhoun, who beat Elmont 5-0 on Oct. 14 and lost, 3-1, to Mepham on Oct. 18. Kayla Capuzzo scored a goal in each game and added three assists in the victory over Elmont. Kristina Gandolfo has 15 points and 10 goals this season.
9. Kellenberg (8-2-1)
Kellenberg beat St. Francis Prep 3-1 on Oct. 15, but the big deal this week was the rematch with St. Anthony’s. After dropping their first meeting, 2-1, when St. Anthony’s scored with just eight minutes left, the rematch didn’t have quite as much drama. St. Anthony’s scored once in each half for a 2-0 win on Oct. 18.
10. Friends Academy (7-2)
Friends topped Carle Place, 2-0, on Oct. 14 and beat Wheatley, 2-0, on Oct. 19 to stay perfect for the week. It was the fifth time this season that a Friends game has been decided by two goals or less. They certainly make you sweat. But I have a sneaky suspicion they’ll still take the Class C Nassau title at the end of the year…
