There are no perfect girls soccer teams in Nassau. Four teams with otherwise unblemished win totals—Massapequa, MacArthur, North Shore and Clarke—are still kept from perfection by the dreaded tie.
And considering there is no overtime in Nassau in the regular season, as there is in Suffolk, you have to wonder, what if?
Afterall, overtime was only eliminated in the Nassau girls soccer regular season before 2009, largely due to concerns over the frequency of injury in late periods and darkness.
But here’s another question: has the lack of overtime in Nassau actually led to more ties than Suffolk?
Coming into Thursday, there have been 25 ties in Nassau this year, with 34 teams overall (60 percent) having at least one tie on their records. In Suffolk the numbers are nearly identical. Eastern Long Island has seen 26 games end in a tie—despite having overtime—and 31 teams overall (54 percent) have at least one tie on their records.
