Suffolk Girls Soccer: The Big 10

The top 10 girl’s soccer teams in Suffolk based on games played through September 28:

1. West Islip (7-1)
After suffering their first loss of the season to Smithtown East, Amanda Martinez and the defending Class AA Long Island champions responded with a 3-1 over cross-town rival East Islip. The Lions then had a come from behind 3-2 victory over Smithtown West in which Nikki Pericairo scored the winner in overtime after Kelsey Raschke scored two second-half goals to tie the game.

2. Sachem East (4-1)
With Morgan Tinari providing the offense - highlighted by the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Patchogue-Medford - and keeper Alyssa Gutierrez - who had two of her four shutouts this week - as the last line of defense, Sachem East remains on top of League I.

3. St. Anthony’s (5-0-1)
Followed a 1-1 tie with St. John the Baptist with a 4-1 win over St. Francis Prep and a 7-1 win over Our Lady of Mercy, in which Ashley Small scored four goals.

4. Connetquot (6-1)
The Thunderbirds are sitting atop League II after outscoring opponents 14-0 in their last three wins thanks in part to two-goal games by Deanna Murino, Raychel Diver and Kelly Geherin.

5. Half Hollow Hills West (5-0)
The Colts rise through the rankings after goals by Marissa Rosen and Julia DiMaria put the finishing touches on a 2-1 win over North Babylon for their fifth consecutive win and third straight over League IV threats.

6. Northport (3-1-1)
Won two straight after dropping their first game of the year in a 4-1 loss to Sachem North. Lauren Atkinson had a hat trick in a 7-0 win over Central Islip and Rosie Hayes had two goals in a 4-2 win over Lindenhurst

7. East Islip (4-2-1)
Shannon Cummings and Aly Conley each scored two goals in a 6-1 win over Newfield and Cari Roccaro scored for the second straight game in a 2-0 win over Hills East. East Islip is unbeaten at in League III at 3-0.

8. West Babylon (5-1)
Suffered a tough 1-0 loss to undefeated Half Hollow Hills West but bounced back with a 5-0 win over Copiague led by two goals by Christina Espositio and a 2-1 win over Bay Shore after a late game-tying goal by Cynthia Delcore and the winner in overtime by Emily Bianco.

9. Smithtown East (6-2)
Smithtown East cracks the top 10 after handing West Islip its first loss of the season thanks to a goal by Sasha Gray in a 1-0 win. They improved to 4-0 in League III with wins over Hills East and Centereach.

10. Deer Park (3-2)
Deer Park jumps ahead of Eastport/South Manor after defeating them 1-0 on Kayla Downs’ first career varsity goal. Deer Park remains perfect in League V at 3-0.
