Suffolk Girls Soccer: The Big 10

The top 10 girl’s soccer teams in Suffolk based on games played through October 6:

1. West Islip (8-1-1)
With some help from Massapequa, who defeated top ranked South Side 4-0, West Islip now sits atop the Long Island girls soccer power rankings. Two days after leading the defending Class AA Long Island champions to a 3-2 win over Smithtown West by scoring the winner in overtime, Nikki Perniciaro recorded a hat trick in a 6-0 win over Newfield. The Lion defense has allowed more than one goal in a game just once this season.

2. St. Anthony's (8-0-1)
The Friars continue to win and win big. With a 6-0 win over Mary Louis Academy, a 7-0 win over St. Dominic and a 6-0 win over St. Mary’s, St. Anthony’s has now won by at least five goals in six of nine games this season. Two-goal games by Maria Jones and Ashley Small helped provide the margins.

3. Sachem East (8-2)
The bad news: The Flaming Arrows had their seven-game winning streak snapped by Commack in a League I showdown. The good news: Eighth-grader Cammie Kelton scored her first two varsity goals in a 3-0 win over East Meadow.

4. Northport (6-1-1)
The Tigers rise in the rankings thanks to a five-game winning streak, capped by a key 5-3 win over Connetquot, in which Erin Magnuson scored the go-ahead goal, earned them League II supremacy. A 3-0 week saw two-goal games by Kristi Abbate, Courtney Fortunato, Rosie Hayes and Natasha Albaneze

5. Half Hollow Hills West (6-0)
Julia DiMaria had a hat trick in a 4-0 win over Copiague, scored the winner in a 2-1 win over Comsewogue and added a goal in a 5-1 win over Riverhead as Hills West remained the lone unbeaten team in Suffolk Class AA.

6. Connetquot (7-2)
Kelly Geherin had two goals in a 4-0 win over Whitman and Jojo Murino scored the winner in a 1-0 win over Bay Shore. But the Thunderbirds lose ground to Northport after suffering a 5-3 loss to the Tigers in a battle between two of the best League II has to offer.

7. West Babylon (8-1)
Defeated Bellport 7-0 as seven different players - Jessica Mazur, Erin McArdle, Madison Vasquez, Emily Bianco, Melissa Frederick, Taylor Davide, Christina Esposito – each scored a goal to give the Eagles their fifth straight win.

8. Smithtown East (9-2)
Lina Veliz scored the winner in huge 1-0 overtime win over East Islip and Dom Albano provided the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Smithtown West. Keeper Michelle Conrad had back-to-back shutouts to give her six for the season.

9. Deer Park (5-2)
Nicolette Tortorici led the Falcons to a 3-1 win over Hauppuage after scoring her first two varsity goals and Amanda Khare added her first varsity goal in a 2-0 win over Islip as Deer Park remained the lone unbeaten team in League V.

10. Commack (4-1-2)
The Cougars crack the top ten after an impressive 3-2 win over League I rival Sachem East in which Colleen Ekert scored what proved to be the eventual game winner. Brittany Costa and Kristin Brandman each added a goal.

On the bubble: East Islip, Sachem North, Sayville, Center Moriches
