Kaufman finished third as Long Island?s top medalist in the state championship with a score of 37.350 ? just .5 from the top spot. This, for an athlete who only began to compete in all-around this year. The Long Beach gymnast who began as a bars and vault specialist stayed true to her roots, though, scoring a 9.45 on vault at states and a show-stopping 9.70 at the qualifier. She took second in the all-around at the qualifier, with a 36.675.

O?Connor came in fourth in the state championship with a 37.050 and led the Suffolk team (down two gymnasts because of illness) to a third-place finish in the team competition. She earned a 9.15 on floor and 9.25 on vault in the meet. She placed first in the Suffolk state qualifier with a 37.925, including a 9.55 in bars.

Osmundsen was the top finisher at the Nassau state qualifiers, with a 36.925 and 9.3s on vault and beam. She also netted a 9.275 on floor at the state championship. During the regular season, Osmundsen made her name as one of the most accomplished gymnasts in the county, with regular scores in the 9s and a 37.00 all-around score in a Jan. 14 win against Long Beach.

Burns finished second in the Suffolk state qualifier with a 37.375 in the all-around. In the state championship, she competed in two of her four events despite illness, and managed to score a 9.375 on bars.

After two years out of organized gymnastics, Tolaj, along with fellow senior Paige McCarthy, helped lead the Sailors to a team county championship. She also came in third in the Nassau state qualifier all-around with a 35.475. With Tolaj, Oceanside set a school record for most points in a meet ? 175.15 on Jan. 21.

Johnson set a record with a 38.025 at the CHSAA individual championships ? beating her own score of 37.3 set in 2007. Johnson was first in all events, including a record 9.7 on vault, exceeding her own record of 9.3 in 2008. Her 9.425 on bars tied Holy Trinity?s Jackie Schweitzer?s 2004 record.

Senior
Burns and Mangini, Commack?s top gymnast, led their team to an undefeated regular season (11-0). Mangini scored a 37.45 to lead the Cougars over Half Hollow Hills in the season finale. She sat out the state qualifiers with the flu, but earned All-County honors nonetheless.
