Miller Place wins varsity lacrosse debut

Zach Hin scored off a pass from Nick Parrella with 11 seconds left in overtime to lift Miller Place over Longwood, 13-12, yesterday in the first-ever varsity lacrosse game for the Panthers.

Miller Place's James Read (four goals, one assist) tied the score at 12 with 56 seconds left in regulation. Ryan Dunne had two goals and two assists, and Parrella added a goal and nine ground balls. John Morgan and Ryan Eggers each scored three goals for Longwood.

Comsewogue 9, Smithtown East 7:Tom Cleary had three goals and an assist to lead Comsewogue in non-league. Alex Zomerfeld added two goals, two assists and 11 ground balls and Nick Pelella won 12 of 19 faceoffs. Ryan Brunet (two goals, one assist) scored the eighth and deciding goal with 7:05 left. Kevin Dondero had three goals for Smithtown East.

Jericho 12, Glen Cove 11: Michael Solomon scored the winner with 1:30 left in overtime for Jericho in non-league. Jesse Chazen led the Jayhawks with four goals and an assist. Chris Borer, who led Glen Cove with three goals, tied it at 11 with 1:50 left in regulation.


West Babylon 14, Wantagh 10: Sam Rush had five of her six goals in a 10-4 first half for West Babylon (2-0) in non-league. Alyssa Murray added four goals and six assists and Christina Esposito had three goals. Paula Schmidt and Colleen Lovett each scored three for Wantagh.

Calhoun 14, Holy Trinity 7:Diandra Hanna had five goals for Calhoun (1-1) in non-league. Jessica Teves added three goals and Megan O'Sullivan had two goals and an assist. Kara McQuillan scored twice for Holy Trinity (1-1).


Carey 3, Floral Park 2: Patti Callahan (2-for-4) drove in Kerry Gilroy with a walk-off single in the eighth for Carey (1-1) in non-league. Brenda Hardman's RBI single tied it in the fifth. Callahan allowed two runs and five hits and struck out 12. The senior recorded her 500th career strikeout in the fifth inning and has 504.

Massapequa 1, Carle Place 0: Alyssa Zinkiewicz (3-for-4) singled in Kate Edwards, who doubled, in the ninth in non-league. Mary Sieber threw a three-hitter and struck out 10.BOYS TRACK

MacArthur 110.5, Elmont 29, Division 23.5:McArthur senior Matt Granata broke a school record with a 22.3 in the 200 meters. The old record (23.8) was set in 1997 by James SanFilippo, Granata's coach.
