Pergola leads Bethpage to win in gymnastics

Eighth-grader Serena Pergola took second with an all-around score of 33.35 to lead Bethpage over Hicksville, 161.45-151.85, Friday in gymnastics.

Pergola took first in the floor exercise (8.85) and balance beam (9.3). Freshman Sarah Ciresi placed third in the all-around (32.75). Lauren Cecco won the all-around (33.85) for Hicksville.

Oceanside 151.85, Lawrence 137.1: Casey Block won the all-around with a score of 33.15 and Cheyenne Blumberg finished second (32.7) to lead Oceanside. Jenna Blackman won the vault with a score of 8.7.

wrestlingIsland Trees 48, Manhasset 19: Matt Andersen earned a 7-6 win over Nick Zanobio at 189 pounds for Island Trees in Conference 4A.

Herricks 60, Valley Stream South 6: Ryan Singh earned a 12-3 major decision over Arsal LaCorte at 125 pounds for Herricks in a 60-6 win over Valley Stream South in Conference 2A.

boys swimmingBellmore JFK 95, Farmingdale 86: Austin Kowalsky won the 100-yard freestyle in 51.78 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 59.62 to lead Bellmore JFK. Dan Elliot won the 100 butterfly (1:01.07) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.06).

Westbury 93, Freeport 57: Victor Zelaya won the 50-yard freestyle in 27.93 and Steven Alexander finished second (29.45) to lead Westbury in Conference III. In the 100 free, William Hawkins won in a time of 1:04.58. Zelaya, Alexander, Hawkins and Matt Alford won the 4 x 400 freestyle relay in 4:51.18. Levittown District 41, Hempstead 24: Jon Derby won the 100-yard backstroke and Kieran McCaughey won the 100 breaststroke to lead Levittown District (1-0).

Huntington 15, Half Hollow Hills East 12: Joseph Rizzi went 3-0 in foil to lead Huntington (1-1).

Great Neck South 17, Wheatley 10: Alex Smith went 3-0 in sabre to lead Great Neck South (3-0). Danny Qiao went 3-0 in epee and freshman Kevin Ko won his first varsity bout.

Brentwood 15, Centereach 12: Vivian Vuong and Crystal Gonzalez each went 3-0 in foil to lead Brentwood (1-1). The Indians' foil team went 8-1.

Great Neck South 18, Wheatley 9: Alexis Mandon went 2-0 in foil and didn't have a touch scored against her to lead Great Neck South (3-0). Freshman Annabelle Pecora (sabre) and junior Laura Mosco (epee) each won their first varsity bouts.boys basketballSouth Side 58, Bethpage 43: Ryan Spadaford scored a game-high 19 points and also had eight rebounds for South Side (1-0) in Conference A-II. Kevin Waxon scored 13 points, and Darren Nickelson had six points and five assists. Nick Giglio led Bethpage (0-1) with 14 points.
