The opening of Rye Playland's 84th season will be celebrated May 11 with special admission pricing and live entertainment and a parade starting at 11 a.m. at the Fountain Plaza.
Coaster the Dragon, the Playland mascot, and members of the Port Chester High School Marching Band will be joined by county officials, local dignitaries and staff to kick off the season.
Afterward live 50s, 60s and 70s music will be performed by the band Reunion on the Music Tower Theater stage at 1, 3 and 5 p.m.
In Kiddyland, "Mad About Science," will be presented at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., while the "Play it DJ" show will be performed at 1, 3, 5 and 6 p.m.
Opening day admission is $15 and includes unlimited park rides. The special price will also be in effect May 12, 18 and 19.
Starting May 24, with Memorial Day weekend, park admission and unlimited rides will cost $30 for adults and $20 for children under 48 inches. Westchester County residents with acceptable proof of residency can receive a $5 discount on admission.
Spectator admission, which covers entrance to the park but not rides, is free for county residents and $10 for nonresidents.
Seasons passes, which give holders unlimited rides all summer, are $95, which is discounted $15 discount for county residents. Spectator admission for the entire season is $35 for non-Westchester residents.
Parking will be $5 on weekdays, $7 on weekends and $10 on holidays.
Plans are to open the Playland beach and pool on June 21, weather permitting.
The park is open noon to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays until Memorial Day weekend. After May 24, the park switches to its spring season schedule, which can be found online at ryeplayland.org. For more information, call the park at 914-813-7010.
