Victoria Porcasi scored six of her 24 points in the last three minutes as Carey overcame a deficit in the fourth quarter Thursday for a 50-44 win over New Hyde Park in its non-conference girls basketball opener.

Trailing 39-38 with 3:24 left, Porcasi drained two free throws to give Carey a 40-39 advantage. Porcasi added six assists and Keva Moore had 14 points and nine rebounds.

Laila Chadry led New Hyde Park with 13 points.

Plainview JFK 35, Clarke 29: Ali Butigian had 12 points and Emily Stack chipped in 10 for Plainview JFK in non-league.
