1. SAYVILLE FOOTBALL Senior quarterback and Wisconsin-commit Jack Coan set the all-time Long Island record for touchdown passes and total yardage in a 42-0 win over West Babylon. Coan threw for four touchdown passes and 186 yards. He now has 7,811 passing yards and 101 career touchdown passes. Last season, Sayville won the LI Class III championship and finished 12-0.

2. CONNETQUOT GIRLS VOLLEYBALL As expected, the Thunderbirds are off to a strong start. Contributions have come from all over the roster, with Taylor Konzen and Daniella Balsano playing key roles in the season-opening win.

3. MASSAPEQUA GIRLS SOCCER The three-time defending state champions have started well, including a 5-1 victory over South Side Monday. Hope Breslin, last season’s New York State Player of the Year, has five goals and two assists.

4. EASTPORT/SOUTH MANOR BOYS VOLLEYBALL Parker Bachisin had 40 assists and Ryan Byrne, Tommy Ogeka and Brennen Brandow each added 11 assists to lead the Sharks to a four-set win over Northport in the season opener.

5. ST. ANTHONY’S GIRLS SOCCER The trio of Francesca Picicci, Sabrina Cristodero and Jackie Louro look to lead St. Anthony’s to a third straight CHSAA state championship

6. SHOREHAM-WADING RIVER FOOTBALL The Wildcats extended Long Island’s longest current win streak to 25 with a 56-0 win over Center Moriches in Suffolk IV. Quarterback Kevin Cutinella had a 54-yard touchdown run on his only carry. The two-time defending LI Class IV champions host Babylon Friday at 7 p.m. Babylon, two-time defending champion at the time, saw its 25-game win streak halted by S-WR two years ago, 9-7.

7. MASSAPEQUA GIRLS VOLLEYBALL The Chiefs cruised to straight-sets victories over Port Washington and East Meadow this week. Jamie Smith had 22 assists, five kills and two blocks against East Meadow. Emilie Marzano had 14 digs.

8. SHOREHAM-WADING RIVER GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY They return six of their top seven runners from last season, including Alexandra Hays and former Class B Public School state champion Katherine Lee. Lee and Hays finished first and second, respectively, in the Class B race at the Suffolk State Qualifier last fall.

9. SACHEM NORTH BOYS VOLLEYBALL The two-time reigning Long Island champions started their season with a straight-sets win over Ward Melville. Sean Hannett had 11 aces and three digs, Jack Driscoll had 27 assists and Dan Larosa had nine digs for the Flaming Arrows.

10. MANHASSET BOYS CROSS COUNTRY Manhasset is the returning Nassau Class B champion and has run at the public school state meet in each of the last two cross country seasons. Daniel Petruso finished eighth at the Nassau State Qualifier last season, running 17:10.01 at Bethpage State Park. Aidan Caggiano ran a 9:53 in the 3,200 meters this spring.
