Sherman lifts Miller Place girls basketball

Marliana Sherman grabbed a rebound off a missed free throw and put it back with four seconds remaining to win it for Miller Place, 53-52, over Mount Sinai in a Suffolk League VI girls basketball game. Bria Greene had 15 points for Miller Place (1-1). Emily Bongiorno had 20 points and Sarah Shine 18 for Mt. Sinai.Amityville 50, Bayport-Blue Point 41: Megan Eastwood hit three of her four three-pointers in the first half and finished with 16 points for Amityville (2-0). She also had six assists. Jocelyn Small chipped in with five points and 12 rebounds. Jennifer Lignelli led Bayport-Blue Point (0-2) with eight points.

Westhampton 31, East Hampton 18: Kristen Polan had 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals to lead Westhampton (1-1). Marianna Jones added eight points and five rebounds.

Shoreham-Wading River 58, Glenn 35: Caitlin Condron had 18 points and four steals to lead Shoreham-Wading River (2-0). Samantha Villafranca had 17 points, eight rebounds, six steals and five assists and Corrine Wiederkehr added 11 points, eight rebounds and four blocks. Alexandra Schechner had six points and six assists.

Sachem North 32, Lindenhurst 26: Sara Rizik scored 13 points, including hitting all four of her free-throw attempts in the final 45 seconds to seal the win for Sachem North (2-0) in League II. Nicole Caggiano added 10 points and seven rebounds.

East Islip 39, Half Hollow Hills East 36: Elizabeth Hand (14 points) hit two free throws with 49 seconds left in overtime to give East Islip (1-0) a 37-36 lead in League III. Laura Hill's free throws with 18 seconds left pushed it to a three-point lead. Hill had 12 points, six assists and nine steals. Kelsey Cunningham led Hills East with 14 points.Smithtown East 50, Centereach 31: Christina Cohen had 18 points and Nicole Shevlin added six points, 10 rebounds and six blocks to lead Smithtown East (1-0).

Copiague 61, West Babylon 46: Chelsea Williams had 21 points, 10 rebounds and four steals and Hannalee Fordyce had 14 points, 10 rebounds and four steals to lead Copiague (1-0) in League IV.

Harborfields 43, Sayville 40: With Harborfields up by one with eight seconds left, Alexia O'Connor (nine points) hit two free throws to cap the scoring for Harborfields (2-0) in League V. Bridgit Ryan's 14 points led Harborfields.

Port Washington 41, Valley Stream Central 32: Emma Horowitz had nine points and nine rebounds to lead Port Washington (1-1) in Nassau Conference III. Ally Seltzer added eight points and nine rebounds and Hayley Kerr had eight points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Lawrence Woodmere Academy 43, Our Savior New American 24: Caroline Clark had 19 points and 12 rebounds for Lawrence Woodmere Academy (4-1) in IPPSAL. Hayley Alexander added 14 points, 10 assists and six steals.

Holy Trinity 60, Our Lady of Mercy 44: Katie Poppe had 25 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals for Holy Trinity (1-0).
