Ambrosino scores winner for Cold Spring Harbor

Kristen Ambrosino scored the winning run on a wild pitch with no outs in the seventh inning to give Cold Spring Harbor a 6-5 win over Malverne Saturday in a Nassau Conference ABC-V/VI softball crossover. Priyanka Badlani and Ambrosino opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and Alex Becker's RBI base hit scored Badlani to tie the score at 5. Ambrosino (3-for-4, three runs), a shortstop, pitched three innings for her first win of the season for CSH (5-5).

Farmingdale 5, Baldwin 0: Isabella Corrao pitched a one-hitter, striking out 13, to lead Farmingdale (6-2) in AA-I. Corrao's potential no-hitter was broken up by a bloop single to leftfield with one out in the bottom of the sixth. In her past five starts, Corrao has two no-hitters, two one-hitters and a two-hitter.

Port Washington 19, Hempstead 2: Eighth-grade righty Alex Caprariello pitched a five-inning no-hitter, her second of the year, for Port Washington (5-5) in AA-IV. Caprariello walked two and struck out seven. Both Hempstead runs scored on errors. Maria Gardella was 2-for-3 with three runs, three stolen bases and two RBIs.

Floral Park 4, Clarke 0: Samantha Giovanniello pitched a one-hitter, walking one and striking out 10 for Floral Park (9-2) in ABC-I. Giovanniello lost the potential no-no with one out in the seventh inning when Angela Carmine singled up the middle for Clarke. Giovanniello hit a two-out solo home run in the third inning to give Floral Park a 3-0 lead.Port Jefferson 4, Mercy 0: Michiko McGivney pitched a complete game four-hitter and went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Port Jefferson in Suffolk League VIII (8-1). Molly Gibson was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

BASEBALL

Central Islip 1, Amityville 0: Michael Cruz scored on a one-out fielder's choice in the third inning for Central Islip (1-9) in non-league. Cruz led off the inning with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a fielder's choice. Nicholas Persad pitched a four-hitter, walking none and striking out five.

Mineola 14, Valley Stream 13: Reliever Nick Moran pitched his way out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam with a one-run lead in the seventh to preserve the victory for Mineola (7-2), winners of six straight games in A-II. Moran pitched 31/3 innings for the save. Sophomore Craig Weber went 4-for-5, Billy Sullivan added two hits and Tommy Ward had four RBIs.

Seaford 9, West Hempstead 7: Sean Brolly was 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBIs for Seaford (4-5) in ABC-II. David Hraska went 3-for-4 and Eddie Schaller was 2-for-4. Keith DeGeorge had two walks and three runs.

Mount Sinai 10, Hampton Bays 0: Ian Schneider pitched a two-hitter, striking out 14 and walking three to lead Mount Sinai (6-3) in League VII.Port Jefferson 12, Pierson 10: Alex Ruback had two RBIs for Port Jefferson (5-4) in League VIII. Ryan Ward went 1-for-4 with three RBIs and a stolen base.

Upper Room 5, Riverdale Country Day School 1: Joe Fernandez allowed two hits and one unearned run, striking out 17 for Upper Room (12-2) in non-league. Fernandez fell one strikeout short of tying his career high of 18. Alex Vargas went 3-for-4 with three runs.
