St. John the Baptist
Highlights: Galati threw her second perfect game of the season in an 8-0 victory over Holy Trinity on April 7. The All-State pitcher / second baseman also showed off her hitting prowess, smacking a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning.
Career at SJB: Galati, who played varsity for West Babylon as an eighth-grader, has thrown five perfect games and two no-hitters in her four years with the Cougars. As a junior, Galati went 15-1 with 230 strikeouts and did not surrender an earned run. She also led her team with a .429 average and four home runs.
Future: Galati will take her game to Hofstra next season. Said Galati: "I just fell in love with the campus . . . Their softball stadium kind of lights my eyes up."
On throwing perfect games: "During the game I really just try to do my best and not pay attention to it. Somewhere along the line, I overhear someone saying it. I think it makes me more determined."
On her team this season: "We're looking really, really good. Honestly, this is the best high school team I've ever been on. I absolutely love the girls, we jell together, we love playing softball with each other."
On what she would throw if she needed one pitch to win a game: "The rise ball. I have 100-percent confidence in it. Before I release it, I visualize where the ball is going to go and visualize the batter swinging and missing. Most of the time it happens. I continue to have that attitude until it fails me. Hopefully it won't."
