(1) Deer Park is slugging its way through League V. In eight games, they’ve scored 80 runs, striking for more than 10 runs four times. One by one they’ve mowed down the League’s elite pitchers – Lindsay Taylor in a 16-1 win over Kings Park; Catherine Havens in a 9-8 win over Eastport-South Manor; Nicole Ehlinger in a 1-0 win over Hauppauge. Led by Aly Dzierzynski, Jacki D’aries and Sabrina Riley in the lineup and Lisa Bonacasa in the circle.
(2) Michiko McGivney is continuing her standout play for Class C’s Port Jefferson. Fully recovered from an injured shoulder – she still hit .758 last year – McGivney has won all four games she’s pitched and consistently torn apart League VIII pitching. In a game against Babylon she hit a double while she was being intentionally walked.
(3) Kellenberg is taking the CHSAA by storm and by surprise this year, with a 6-0 record in league play. They have a deep pitching rotation led by Deena Farrell and Caitlin Kennedy, and have proven they can outhit any team in their path. They’ve scored 54 runs and let up just 11 in eight games.
(4) Baldwin's Carly Mertens is star at the plate and in the circle. She leads Long Island with seven home runs and sports an 8-0 record to go along with it. She homered in three straight games to start the year and went deep twice against Port Washington on April 13.
