Kellenberg has flawlessly dominated CHSAA the past two seasons, and yesterday's championship game against St. John the Baptist was no different.

Susan Pardo threw a five-inning no-hitter as the top-seeded Firebirds won their second straight league title, beating host and No. 2 SJB, 10-0.

Kellenberg (27-0) completed back-to-back perfect league records, extending its league winning streak to 44 games after a 24-0 mark this season.

"It doesn't happen too often in high school when you win back-to-back championships and go undefeated," coach Ken Conrade said. "We have such good competition in the Catholic League and I'm blown away by their remarkable perseverance, continuity and consistency as teammates."

Pardo, named MVP, allowed one baserunner on a hit-by-pitch with two outs in the first. Pardo struck out 10, including six in a row and seven of the last nine batters she faced.

"Everything was working," Pardo said. "It feels great. We're living in the moment right now. We're in jubilation."

Pardo also was 2-for-3 and drove in the final two runs of Kellenberg's six-run second inning with a double to left.

Sabrina DeAngelis powered Kellenberg's offense with a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to cap the scoring. She went 3-for-3 with three runs.

"I just saw the first pitch that I liked and wanted to keep the team ahead and just hit it," DeAngelis said of her home run. "It feels great."

Amy Quinn added a two-run single for the Firebirds.

When the game was over, Pardo was awarded Pitcher of the Year honors, and Kellenberg catcher Alexandra Pisciotta won CHSAA Player of the Year.

Kellenberg advances to the CHSAA state semifinals at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hofstra against a team from the Buffalo region. Last season, Kellenberg lost, 6-5, in the state semis to the eventual state champion Archbishop Molloy of Queens.

SJB (18-7) played twice Thursday, first beating No. 3 St. Anthony's (18-7) in the semifinals, 6-5, on a walk-off single by Emily Quatrale in the bottom of the eighth inning before falling to Kellenberg in the final.
