Ranftle's 5 goals lead Hauppauge girls

Taylor Ranftle had five goals, including the winner late in the second half, to give No. 1 Hauppauge a 10-9 win over No. 4 Harborfields Tuesday in a Suffolk Class B girls lacrosse semifinal.

Lauren Descalzo had three goals and an assist and Lindsey Alfano added three draw controls, five ground balls and two caused turnovers for Hauppauge (16-2), which plays No. 2 Eastport-South Manor in the Class B final at 5:30 p.m. May 31 at Dowling.BOYS LACROSSE

Ward Melville 12, Smithtown East 5: Mike Rastivo (one goal, four assists) had a goal and three assists during a 6-1 third quarter for No. 3 Ward Melville (14-3) in a Suffolk Class A quarterfinal. The Patriots play the winner of Smithtown West vs. Half Hollow Hills East in a semifinal at 4 p.m. on Friday.SOFTBALL

West Islip 5, Hauppauge 3: Gaby Cinquemani's two-run single drove in Annie Grabinsky and Marissa Motisi in the top of the seventh and gave No. 10 West Islip (13-7) a 5-3 lead in a Suffolk Class AA first-round game. West Islip will play at Longwood at 4 p.m. Thursday.


Glen Cove 4, Plainedge 3:Gorov Sodhi and Ricky Liang defeated Gordon Wong and Rob Rizzacasa, 7-5, 6-4, in fourth doubles as No. 4 Glen Cove (12-4) overcame a two-match deficit against second-seeded Plainedge to win the Nassau Conference 4A championship. In third doubles, Tommy Cammissa and Danny Whitely beat Brandon Caradonna and Adam Marcus, 6-3, 6-2. Mauro Carignano and Giancarlo Pagliara defeated Joe Caracciolo and Matt Giris, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, at second doubles, and Michael Burrell topped Brian Kaufman in third singles, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), for Glen Cove.
