Shapiro's two-hitter lifts East Meadow

Kerri Shapiro threw a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to lead No. 2 East Meadow (14-7) over No. 3 Massapequa, 2-0, in the Nassau Class AA softball semifinals Thursdayafternoon.

Shapiro had a no-hitter broken up with no outs in the top of the seventh. Emma McKillop went 2-for-3 with an RBI for East Meadow, which will face No. 1 MacArthur in the best-of-three finals at 4 p.m. Monday at Mitchel Athletic Complex.

MacArthur 9, Long Beach 1: Kristen Brown threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts, Jena Cozza went 4-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs and Kaitlyn Fitzsimmons went 3-for-4 with three RBIs to lead No. 1 MacArthur (18-3) in a semifinal. No. 5 Long Beach is 12-8.Island Trees 9, Clarke 3: Nicole Pellegrino went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs to lead No. 1 Island Trees (18-2) over No. 4 Clarke in the Nassau Class A semifinals. Alannah Basile threw a three-hitter with seven strikeouts, one walk, and one earned run. Island Trees advances to face No. 2 Plainedge in the best-of-three finals starting 4 p.m. Monday at Mitchel Athletic Complex.St. Anthony's 10, St. Dominic 1: Michelle Carbone went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and four RBIs and Aileen Reilly threw a complete game with six strikeouts to lead No. 3 St. Anthony's (17-5) over No. 6 St. Dominic in the first round of the CHSAA playoffs. The Friars will face No. 2 St. John the Baptist in the quarterfinals at 11 a.m. Saturdayat Our Lady of Mercy.

Bay Shore 6, Sachem East 4: Brianna Coan (2-for-4, four RBIs) hit a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th for Bay Shore (19-0) in Suffolk League II. This is Bay Shore's second straight undefeated regular season.

Rocky Point 3, Westhampton 2: Lauren Molloy scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh to win the game for Rocky Point (11-8) in League VI.
