For defending state champions Celeste Matute and Courtney Kowalsky, this season was a balance between the extra confidence they had coming off their title run in 2014 and the added pressure of knowing that every team they came across would give them their absolute best.

"Last year nobody knew about us," Kowalsky said after the duo won the county title. "But this year everyone was ready for us."

It didn't matter as they served and smashed their way through the postseason, becoming the first team from Nassau County to win back-to-back state titles since 1999. They dropped only 21 games and won every set on their way to the title.

"It was really important for us and really cool to not lose a set," Matute said after the state tournament. "We worked hard all season to try and be our best."
