Clifford sets MacArthur marks in long, triple jumps

Sophomore Kelly Clifford broke school records in the long jump and triple jump Sunday to power MacArthur to its fifth straight Conference II title in the league championship meet at St. Anthony's.

Clifford set the long jump record at 15 feet, 4 inches, breaking the record of 15-2 set by Shannon Degan in 2006, coach James SanFilippo said. She won the triple jump with 36-3, breaking her own record of 34-71/2 set in 2009.

MacArthur scored 210 points, and East Meadow was second with 83.5. MacArthur won eight of the 16 events and swept the 300 meters and triple jump. Lucia Montefusco won the 3,000 and 1,500 meters with times of 11:22 and 5:13.5. Maria Montefusco won the 300 in a personal-best 43.4. Kristina Coiro scored 22 points in the meet, and won the 1,000 meters in 3:08.5.


H.D. Woodson 50, North Babylon 44: Courtney Cayard hit a three-pointer with 2:00 left to put Woodson up by eight at the JFK Tournament in the Bronx. Bria Hartley had 29 points for North Babylon (10-2), and senior Jeanette Scott had a career-high 12 rebounds.

Neptune 65, St. John the Baptist 40: Christine Bosco was 4-for-5 on three-pointers and scored 13 points for St. John (8-9).
