Jackson lifts Longwood to track title

Mark Jackson won the 100 meters in 10.8 seconds, the long jump in 21 feet, 4 inches and took second in the high jump (6-6) Saturday as Longwood won the Monroe-Woodbury Track and Field Invitational team title with 50 points.

Mike Engesser won the 800 (1:58.4) and Jamal Sally finished first in the triple jump (43-7) for the Lions. Jackson and Engesser also were part of Longwood's sprint medley relay team with Dave Bennet and Walter Penate, which took second in 3:38.8.

Zach Malik took second in the 1,500 for Longwood in 4:18.6.

Roberts sets mark. Bay Shore's Kadesh Roberts won the 300 intermediate hurdles in a meet-record time of 37.52 and took second in the 110 hurdles in 14.79 at the Puma Henderson Invitational in West Chester, Pa. Omari Buckmere came in second in the triple jump (44-7) and third in the long jump (21-3/4), Jamari Lawrence took third in the triple jump (43-5) and Angel Rosario came in second in the discus (171-3) for Bay Shore.

Firebirds set mark.Kellenberg's 4 x 800 relay team of Ashlin Conroy, Celine Jellineau, Emily Zehnder and Jazmine Fray took first in a meet-record time of 9:41.4 at the Somers Invitational, besting the previous mark of 9:42 set by Bronxville in 1996.

Panther Invite.Half Hollow Hills East's Mary Chimezie won the 200 in 25.4 seconds and the school's 4 x 400-meter relay team of Tivoni Taylor, Lauren Keschner, Christie Perrier and Tiffany Perrier took first in 4:05 at the Panther Invitational on Friday.

BASEBALL

Friends Academy 3, East Rockaway 2: Will McEvoy had two hits and drew a base-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth to win it for Friends Academy in Conference BC. Jack Bauer struck out four and allowed five hits in a complete game.

Mineola 9, Seaford 8: D.J. DeRosa drew a bases-loaded walk, capping a five-run fifth for Mineola in Conference A-VI. Tom Behan hit a two-run single with two outs to tie the score at 8. Nick Cerame struck out four in two innings of scoreless relief for the save.Smithtown Christian 3, Port Jefferson 2: Dillon Prince singled home Dom Damon in the bottom of the fifth for Smithtown Christian (12-4) in Suffolk League IX.

SOFTBALL

Kellenberg 10, St. Dominic 0: Susan Pardo threw a five-inning no-hitter, walked two and struck out 11 for Kellenberg (17-0) in CHSAA. Pardo added three hits and two RBIs and Stephanie Staino went 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Firebirds.

East Rockaway 12, Mineola 4: KerriAnne Vulpis went 3-for-5 with three runs for East Rockaway (4-6) in Nassau Conference ABC-III. Vulpis set the school record for hits with 113, surpassing the previous mark of Jacquie Mead (112) set in 2004.

Hauppauge 6, West Babylon 1: Lauren Buturla threw a four-hitter with three strikeouts and one walk, and Ashley Caiola hit a two-run double in the top of the sixth inning to give Hauppauge (10-3) a 5-1 lead in Suffolk League IV. Marietta Silliman went 3-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases in the win.

Half Hollow Hills West 8, Newfield 0: Francesca Casalino struck out 12 with no walks in a two-hitter for Half Hollow Hills West (12-2) in League IV. Shoreham-Wading River 3, Rocky Point 0: Caitlin Mirabell went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and one RBI and Madeline Massa had a solo home run to lead Shoreham-Wading River (9-5) in League VI. Chelsea Hawks tossed a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the win.

BOYS LACROSSE

Whitman 11, Harborfields 10: Evan Zackow scored with 11:24 left and with 3:26 left, both on assists from Mike Chimenti, to give Whitman (7-5) an 11-9 lead in Suffolk Division I. Zackow finished with two goals and five assists and Mike Chimenti had five goals and two assists. South Side 9, Bethpage 5: Peter Clark had five goals and an assist and Sean Kenny won 15 of 18 faceoffs to lead South Side (4-3) in Nassau Conference III.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Garden City 18. Mount Sinai 12: Catherine Dickinson had five goals and Alexandra Bruno four goals and two assists for Garden City (10-4) in the Long Island Challenge. Bay Shore 14, Shoreham-Wading River 5: Caroline deLyra had five goals and three assists and Cynthia DelCore four assists for Bay Shore (13-1) in the Long Island Challenge.
