Jericho's expert discus thrower broke a county record and won a state championship in his final season before taking his power and strength to the University of Pennsylvania this fall. White's 187 foot discus throw at a league meet in April broke the Nassau record of 186-3, set by Levittown’s Jerry Hannon in 1971. A 181-9 toss won him the state title. White won the Nassau A-II discus, throwing 190-8 and shot put, tossing 55-5 3/4. He also won the discus and shot put at the Massapequa Chief Invitational. He threw the discus 190-8 1/2 and the shot put 58-6 3/4. White tossed the shot put 52-11 and the discus 183-4 at the Nassau state qualifier. Both distances were good for first place.
