Track beat: Westbury's Skeete keeps winning

Westbury's Owen Skeete has continued his dominance in distance events this season.

The senior took first in the 1,000 meters in 2:36.8, the 1,600 in 4:43.2 and the 3,200 in 10:02.9 at the Nassau Conference III championships at St. Anthony's this week.

Not to be outdone, Westbury had winners in the high jump (Brandon Wilson), pole vault (Rashan Whethers) and shot put (Hugh O'Brien) on its way to the conference title.

Elmont, which had winners in the 600 (Angelo Melendez), 55 (Jaquan Smith) as well as the 4 x 200-meter, 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relays, took second with 81 points. Jericho was third with 59.

Hewlett's Neil Cohen was also a triple winner, taking the 3,200 (10:28.0), 1,600 (4:52.4) and 600 (1:30.5) at the Conference IV championships.

The Bulldogs took first with 130 points, followed by Lynbrook (97.5) and Roslyn (76).

In the Nassau girls Conference III championship, Garden City eighth-grader Emma Gallagher won the 1,000 (2:56.2) and the 300 (41.9). Fellow eighth-grader Jennifer Gerland won the 1,500 in 4:59.6 for the Trojans, who took first with 164 points. Westbury (94) was second and New Hyde Park (51) took third.

Plainedge's Kathleen Kennedy was a standout performer in the Conference IV championship, taking first in the 3,000 (11:46.2), 1,000 (3:14.2) and 1,500 (5:26.5). Plainedge (175.5) topped Hewlett (144.5) and Lynbrook (63) for the title.
