Smithtown East extended its unbeaten record in League II with a four-game victory over crosstown rivals Smithtown West.
The story is as followed:
East came out flat but would regroup in the final three games. When they are on, East is a well-oiled machine capable of routing any time team not named Half Hollow Hills. Today, it was outside hitter Tyler Donofrio who came up huge, chipping in clutch kills at the most opportune times.
Next week, East hosts a tough Bay Shore team. Not an easy task.
West (3-3) fits in nicely into the middle of that League II fray, with teams like Whitman and West Islip.
In other news from tonight, Hills dispatched of Lindenhurst in League I. Hills is as good as advertised, and at the season's midpoint, we are on a collision course for a Hills-Smithtown East conference championship match. If that match happens, it is Rocky v. Apollo above the net.
Shocker of the night: Commack falls to previously winless Sachem East in other League I news. Coming off a nice win against Sachem North, Commack could not get past this "trap game." So, it looks like they will fall out of the "top-10" next week, although with future games against Hills and Ward Melville left on the schedule, the Cougars still have plenty of time to turn things around.
And in girls results, Ward Melville continued to breeze through the competition with a 3-0 win over Longwood. Emily Astarita had 16 kills in the match.
