So, in the Division I playoffs, we are two wins away from seeing an undefeated showdown between Half Hollow HIlls and Smithtown East for the Suffolk title.
Hills hosts Northport, while East draws Lindenhurst in the semifinals match-up.
Northport, after a middle-of-the-pack finish in '09, returned most of its starting line-up, and has lived up to the lofty pre-season expectations. Matt Lertora has justified his pre-season Long Island status, while Pat Gathman has emerged as one of the better setters on the Island. But Hills, with Chris Kaimis and MIke DeGrazia, should be too much for Northport to handle. I like HIlls in three close games.
Smithtown East has rarely looked vulnerable this season, save for both of their games against Smithtown West, when they dropped the first set. Look for setter Sean Baxley and outside hitter Tyler Donofrio to do just enough to get by Lindenhurst's Nick Cervasio and Chris Mehm.
Meanwhile, in the Division II semis, undefeated Eastport-South Manor hosts Sayville, while No. 3 East Hampton visits No. 2 Shoreham-Wading River.
