Three Postgame Thoughts: Port Beats PJFK in Five

Three thoughts from last night’s Port Washington-Plainview JFK five-set epic:

Story as followed: http://www.newsday.com/sports/high-school/volleyball/byun-leads-port-washington-past-plainview-1.3252567

1. Port’s Jongho Byun is one the county’s top players, maybe third behind Chris Husmann and Christian Smith of Massapequa. In the fifth game, he flat-out took over, very much as Greg Rankel did for Plainview last season. Byun, a junior, stepped up when it mattered most.

2. Plainview JFK will rebound from this loss. The Hawks were up two sets-to-one and 19-16 in the fourth set. Seniors Evan Schwartz and Chris Ferolito lead a deep core of players capable of competing with any team on Long Island.

3. These two teams will meet again in one of the Nassau Class A playoff semifinals. If Massapequa takes the top spot as expected, that leaves the path wide open
