Williams helps Elmont to playoff victory

Dominique Williams scored 11 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter to lead top-seeded Elmont over No. 16 Bethpage, 45-40, Friday in the first round of the Nassau Class A boys basketball playoffs. Elmont (16-2) used a 16-9 fourth quarter to rally. Williams also had eight rebounds and Dillon Williams added 11 points. Elmont will host No. 8 Jericho at noon Friday at Hofstra in the quarterfinals.

Westbury 82, Seaford 37: Paris Abrams scored 15 points and Jovantay Lindsay had 14 for No. 2 Westbury (14-4), which will play Manhasset in the quarterfinals at 8 p.m. Friday at Hofstra. Floral Park 60, Valley Stream North 57: Alex Grant hit two free throws with seven seconds left to cap the scoring for No. 4 Floral Park (6-11). FP trailed 52-46 with four minutes left before going on a 7-0 run, sparked by Shamoy McIntosh (28 points), who had a three-point play to ignite the run. Roey Shmuel added 10 points and seven assists and Dylan Sasson had 10 points and eight rebounds. Centereach 49, West Islip 27: Senior Bret DeRosa scored a career-high 13 points and added four assists to lead Centereach (6-6) in League III. Mike Ferchland added 10 points, four rebounds and three assists. With the win, Centereach clinched a playoff berth. Smithtown East 64, Half Hollow Hills East 45: Smithtown East went on a 16-4 run in the third quarter to open a 19-point lead to clinch a playoff berth. Sohopmore John Feiler had 21 points and 18 rebounds. Center Moriches 103, Mercy 44: Senior Jon Ward-Adams scored a career-high 40 points and junior Harvey Houpe had a career-high 14 points for Center Moriches (13-1) in League VII. Menzer wins. Center Moriches' Michael Menzer scored a 9-8 decision over Rodearrick Holder of Babylon to win the 103-pound match in the Suffolk Division II Individual semifinals at Center Moriches last night. Menzer will face Mynor Javier (Mattituck) in the final Saturday.


Valley Stream District wins again. Jumell Wilson shot a 190 to lead Valley Stream District to its sixth straight air rifle championship. Valley Stream District finished with a 737, ahead of Massapequa (726) and Garden City took third (696).
