And we're off...

The first whistle of the day was for Hauppauge 96-pounder Mark West, the top seed in the class, who advanced with a technical fall over Nathan Marshall of Massena.

Wild card Conor O'Hara of Sachem East lost a tight 4-3 decision to fifth seed Steve Michel of Lancaster.

But the best match of the class was between Nassau champ Mark Raghunandan of Long Beach and Kellenberg's Pat Skinner. Skinner pulled within one at 6-5 on an escape, but was taken to his back in the late moments and Raghunandan moved on to the quarterfinals.
