Most of the top guys have advanced to the quarters, with the second round close to completion.

Long Beach's Dylan Palacio opened his day with a pin Calhoun's Anthony Fitzsimmons in 1:02 at 160 pounds. It was easy, easy work.

The No. 2 seed at 138 pounds, Davon Russell of Uniondale, squeaked past Brian Quiroz of Valley Stream Central via 3-1 decision. Also at 138, Danny McDevitt of Wantagh will face Mepham's Steve Wray in his quarterfinal match.

220-pounder Andrew Cole of Uniondale pinned Will Dowd of Herricks in 2:23 and is now 35-1 on the season.

At heavyweight, Freeport's Lashawn Thomas defeated Garden City's Matt Vitale, 8-3, and will face top seed Evan Kappatos of Syosset in the quarters. Uniondale's Dante Salkey pinned Port Washington's Anthony D'Aversa and will take on the tough Pete Amabile of Long Beach in what should be one of the more competitive matches of the quarterfinal round.

Quarters are about to start-- Check Newsday.com later tonight and tomorrow's paper.
