The two-day Nassau County Individual Championships/state qualifier begin tomorrow at 10 a.m., which means long, long, looooong days for everybody involved.
Here are some of the potentially great matches on the docket:
At 215, undefeated Andrew Danziger (31-0) and Uniondale's Elijah Shabaaz are on course to meet in the semis. Danziger has pinned Shabaaz in their two previous matches this season, but Shabaaz has won 10 straight since losing to Danziger on Jan. 19.
Long Beach's Dylan Palacio and Massapequa's Chris Sarro are favored to go at it in the 145-pound finals. Sarro moved up to 160 and defeated Wantagh's Chris Loew in the team finals to help the Chiefs win their second straight title. In their only meeting of the season, back on Dec. 29, Palacio (32-0) took a 4-2 decision. Palacio has been the favorite since day one of the season, but Sarro has been coming on strong of late. This one could be the show stopper.
135 should be intriguing with Bellmore's Bobby Krug, Long Beach's Edisson Tigre-Borja and MacArthur's Angelo Rella vying for the top spot.
