Bill Guerin announces his retirement

His brief tenure as Islanders captain -- he spent only one full season on the Island -- will endure, since Guerin still makes his home here and Garth Snow dealt Guerin to the Penguins, where he went on to play a big part in Pittsburgh's 2008-09 Stanley Cup run.

But Guerin, who will be honored Monday night in Pittsburgh by the two teams he won Cups with, the Devils and Penguins, said today he'll retire as a Penguin after 18 seasons and 429 goals.

His honesty was valued by fans and media, not always by his coaches; he and Scott Gordon clashed often during Guerin's 142-game stay here. Not sure either one of them got the last laugh.
